The Bright Side of Tough Times
Written by: Nancy Le
The 3 months stuck at home have really taught me to appreciate the subtle nuances and beauty that we run into every day in our daily lives. As tough as it is, it is something for the world and the people who live on it to grow from. The environment is rebuilding itself, and as nature resurfaces into a blossoming Earth, we the people are re-evaluating and rebuilding the connection to each other and ourselves.
2020 has felt like the shortest, yet longest year yet. Hectic, but absolutely necessary. Change needed to happen, and it has been a really hard pill to swallow. So don’t give up and try your best to stay positive, after all, you’re living through a momentous time in history!
The roots of systematic racism are being uprooted, nature is returning, and people are taking the time to fight for a better future. All of these changes, big and small, may have never happened if it wasn’t for this historically difficult time.
It is hard to stay positive when the pandemic has brought about so much loss and struggle. It’s difficult to adjust to an online platform while society is being forever changed for the better right outside your window. But here are some ways to look on the bright side and make the most of quarantine:
- Go do that workout that you’ve always said you would “eventually get to”
- Call your relatives and friends that you haven’t talked to in a while
- Join an online panel or event that you’re interested in
- Bake, cook, clean
- Pick up a new hobby
- Learn a new language
- Encourage social reform: sign petitions, donate, educate yourself/others
- Take care of your skin/hair, feel free to spend hours in your robe
- Virtual party/movie/game night with friends or family
- Update your playlist
- Start that passion project
These are just a few ideas from the endless list of things you could do in quarantine. Relaxing isn’t a waste of time, nor is grinding on work remotely from home.
Whatever you choose to do, make sure you feel good about it. Because when the world is going through a tough time, you should do your part to make yourself and the people around you just a little bit happier. Happy people make the Earth happy too.
