Let’s talk about skincare!
Skincare has become a very popular topic within the last couple of years. Many people have developed routines and have products that they swear by. This week I will be talking about skincare, I will be sharing some of my favourite tips, tricks, and favourite products.
Some of my favourite skincare enthusiasts on social media are @skincarebyhyram and @whatsonvisface, they have helped me on my skincare journey and give amazing skincare advice. Below I will discuss the products in order of my skincare routine. Everyone has different skin types so the type of routine will differ from person to person. My skin type is normal to dry, I like to keep my routine simple yet effective.
If you are wearing makeup you want to start by removing this first before starting skincare. What I’ve learned from the skinfluencers I’ve watched is that makeup wipes are bad for your skin. Although they are quick and easy to use, makeup wipes do not properly clean your face and can cause breakouts, irritation, and clogged pores. The preservatives and chemicals that are used in the makeup wipes are also going directly onto your skin. Washing your face and using a cleanser is an effective alternative. As well, you can use cleansing oil to remove makeup.
First I begin with cleansing my face. My all-time favorite cleansers include the First Aid Beauty Pure Skin Face Cleanser. This cleanser is great for sensitive and dry skin. It is fragrance-free and also removes makeup. It always leaves my face feeling clean and fresh but never dry or oily. Another favorite cleanser that I recently picked up is the Cerave Hydrating Cleanser. This cleanser hashyaluronic acid which helps with hydration and ceramides which helps to maintain the skin’s natural barrier. It is also fragrance-free and helps for people with sensitive skin.
After washing my face, I like to use The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid. This serum is great as it helps to keep the skin moisturized. It also has many other benefits which include healthier skin and reducing the visibility of fine lines and wrinkles. This product is also super affordable, it is only $6.80 at Sephora. It doesn’t make me break out or feel oily.
Next, I like to go in with a moisturizer as I have super dry skin. My two all-time favourite moisturizing products are the ELEMIS Superfood Cica Calm hydration juice and the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream. The hydration juice is such an amazing product and is always leaving my skin feeling super fresh and hydrated. I usually use the repair cream in the winter when my skin is feeling super dry, it is thicker and a cream.
Tips and Tricks
- Wash your pillowcases (you want to do this weekly)
Your pillowcase contains a buildup of oil, dirt, and sweat from its frequent use. Which can make you break out or can impact your skin.
- Refrigerating products
Refrigerating your products can help to increase the longevity of your products, as well as delivering a cooling effect to your face. It can help reduce under-eye bags, reduce inflammation, and tighten your pores.
- Don’t over-wash your face
Over-washing your face can make your skin feel squeaky clean but can leave your skin damaged or producing extra oil. The recommended amount is twice a day, usually once in the AM and once in the PM.
- Don’t use too many products
Using too many products can cause irritation, redness, breakouts, and dryness. Overusing and combing too many products can make your skin worse. Some ingredients also don’t work well together. It can also make your skin feel super greasy and sticky.
- Do not use harsh products on your face
Using harsh cleansers or products can strip your skin of the good oils and diminish the protective barrier, which can increase breakouts.
